Operation Sticker Shock

What's it all about?

Every year, P4P works with groups of students from surrounding schools to travel the county and put informational stickers on cases of alcohol. This is a great learning experience for youth and gives them the power to make changes in their communities.

Due to COVID-19 staff needed to fill-in for the students and think of some more creative ways to get the message out to the community, so liquor store bags were also introduced. Now you can see our messaging in even more locations!

What is the message?

Sticker Shock reminds adults in the community that underage drinking is not just unsafe, it is illegal. Adults who provide alcohol to people under the age of 21 can be fined up to $1000 and/or could face jail-time of up to a year.

But why is it so important?

Young people aren't just small adults. Their (amazing) brains are growing and developing, and will continue to do so until they are 25! Even if young people drink while supervised, or have their keys taken away, drinking alcohol can cause permanent damage to their developing brains.

Won't they just drink anyway?

Maybe, but believe it or not, studies show teens and young adults actually do feel that their parents should have a say in whether they drink alcohol or not. Studies also show that kids who's parents allow them to drink at home are MORE likely to binge drink outside the home. Good intentions aside, you're not teaching them to drink responsibly, you're teaching them you are OK with them drinking.
